Christmas Comes... Cards!

Yes folks, it's that time of year again!  I've begun my Holiday '10 cards early (for me!), and have been making some good stuff, if I may say. :)  I got the idea for this card on one of the thousands of card making blogs out there, but it's mostly my own design.  I wanted to make the card work for it's lucky owner, something that can work as a greeting, a gift card holder, and offer two gift tags to be used on holiday gifts, wine or whatever it is you are giving!  The two tags are removable, of course, and if you aren't giving a gift card, you can keep the tags inside the cute little pockets.  The card is blank on the inside, and I've been thinking of trying to write (or stamp?) sentiments on them so as to make them a bit more rounded out.  I love blank on the inside cards, they let you sort of make a letter, and usually by the holiday season, you have a lot of news to report to family, no?!  (I do, with all the fam I have out of state!)

Anyway, here's how the card looks with the tags on the outside:

The backsides of the tags are just blank cardstock.  I love love LOVE the way this one turned out (the gingerbread man one), and have made a few more in it's like.  I just love the holidays; the colors alone spark up something inside that make me feel warm and fuzzy inside, isn't it great?  I've opened up an Etsy store, and will list these cards on it, so if you like, visit my store at Etsy.com (jeljelbinks is my store name).  I'll have many more cards listed on it as the week progresses.  I have one more pic of one of the cards like this that I made, check it out:

So, there you have it, this is what I've been up to for the past week.  My small apartment has been covered in shredded cardstock, and my dirty, gluey fingers have smudged many a wall!  I'm going to head right back to JoAnn Crafts and/or Michael's for more Christmas paper and hopefully a stamp and ink set very soon.  I have also been hinting around that I want a Cricut for a gift this year, so we'll see if I have any luck soon enough, won't we?  I'll post this weekend's cards next week, see ya & have a great weekend!

New Beginnings

Welcome to the latest and greatest... Card Core is a place to display my cards, and for anything else that comes up.  Lately, my life has been a tornado, and I've been spinning around and around.  I love it that I can take all the energy (good and bad) and direct it somewhere... so, here's a card that I made last week.  I got the idea for it on Card Universe (I have a page there, my name is Sizzle Chest).  That site is an awesome place to get inspiration, new ideas, and to meet other people who are like minded.  We card makers are a lively bunch... heh heh.

The "Owl Always Love U" card was made some time ago, but I decided to begin this blog with that card, it is one of my all time favorites, and I'm super proud of it.  I referred to a commercial for a cartoonish owl movie when making the eyes!  I guess I'm most proud of the cards that are made in this way: kind of sculpted out of plain 'ol cardstock.  I start out with a drawing (pencil on heavy cardstock, or posterboard), and then cut out the pieces and trace them onto colored cardstock and glue them together for a complete pic.  Recently, I've added to my tools a circle cutter by ek and a scallop cutter by Recollections.  They were relatively inexpensive, purchased from the Michael's in Santa Monica.  Every time I find some extra time and don't feel too guilty about spending, I go there and add to my play stuff.  It's tough to keep spending when I'm not selling as many cards, but hey, hobbies are important too, no?  Especially when they are about the only thing keeping you afloat.  So, I plan on posting one card per week, and may drop in, in between to rant or showcase something interesting.

Enjoy!  (I LOVE comments, please feel free to let me know what you think!)
